Tuesday at Condover Hall

Another great day! All the children have been fantastic: eating well, joining in with all the activities and getting along so well. It has been so much fun for everyone.

Today was a huge sports event with every school involved in the project. We did duck, duck goose, football, sharks, parachute and lots of others. It was very sad to say goodbye to all the children.

Today we visited a school in Sunderbans, which is on an island in West Bengal. We travelled by coach and boat for 5 hours but it was well worth it. The children welcomed us with a special greeting and threw flower petals over us as we walked between them.

Today we spent the day with teachers from India and showed them more maths and phonics activities. Some of the teachers were a bit naughty so we had lots of fun. Here are some pictures of the lovely teachers and a song from St Joseph’s.

Today we visited our link school, St. Joseph’s; it was a red and blue building alongside a small lake. It was just like walking into Christ Church with the. children wearing smart red uniforms - just like us! We met the Headteacher and all the children and read them stories. They loved the Bear Hunt story and joined in with all the actions. It was lovely to see how much they loved coming to school, and for some it was only their third day and they were only two. Howeve, P.E. was a little different as they did something called drill practice to the beat of a drum. I wonder if you would prefer P.E. to be like this?

Today, we have been showing our Indian teacher friends lots of different activities to give them some new ideas to teach phonics and maths. They really liked your puppet, Joel!

We practised saying lots of sounds and showed games to help their children to learn to Fred talk and blend into words.

At the end of the day we visited Mother Teresa’s house which told of her amazing life.

The roads here are absolutely crazy - traffic seems to go in all directions, with bikes and carts and walkers alongside the speeding taxis with their blaring horns. We’ve sent you a video - we have to walk across roads like this one!

Today has been our first day in school. Mrs Hunt went to Hastings school which is a slum school under a major road. The children all learn together in a single space under a bridge. Today they enjoyed Bear Hunt - they liked the video of Year 2 singing their Bear Hunt song.  Mrs Beckett went to a different slum school called Topsia and the children were very good at singing and loved to hear stories. Some children were tiny and only 2 years old, and loved to snuggle up close. Can you see the tiny baby in the first photograph?

Sunday began with a church service at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Everyone was very welcoming and we even knew some of the hymns. We met some teachers who told us about their schools and a lovely 88-year old lady who had fond memories of her visit to England in 1979. We saw grey dolphins in the River Ganges whilst some children were playing at the river’s edge. Everyone is very friendly and chatty and one funny chap wanted his photo taken!
