Computing

At Christ Church C of E Primary School, we offer a high-quality computing education that inspires pupils to think computationally, creatively, safely  and solve problems.

Our computing curriculum equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and change things. Computing has deep links with mathematics, science, and design and technology, and provides insights into both natural and artificial systems. The core of computing is computer science, in which children are taught the principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to put this knowledge to use through programming. Building on this knowledge and understanding, children are equipped to use information technology to create programs, systems and a range of content. Computing also ensures that children become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through information and communication technology – at a level suitable for the future workplace and as active participants in a digital world. This is all underpinned by developing their computational thinking and an awareness of how to keep themselves safe on-line.

Computing is a key subject for further development this year, 2023-2024. We are currently using Purple Mash as the core scheme for our computing curriculum, however following INSET training in January 2024, we will use the TEACH COMPUTING scheme to develop our curriculum further. Therefore, the long term plan has been amended to make use of the strongest aspects of Purple Mash in the Autumn term.
