Computing Academy

Across school ipads are used to teach skills within our  Computing Academy. Pupils at KS1 are taught skills in their class in weekly computing lessons; they then use and apply those skills in other subjects during the week.

At KS2 Computing Academy takes place each Friday afternoon. Children learn in small, mixed age teams, as this ensures that younger children benefit from the immediate support of more experienced children, and older children benefit from learning how to explain technical skills to others. This ensures all are supported and challenged to learn at a fast pace as technology develops year on year.  In Computing Academy this year, using the 'Switched On' resources, children learn about:

Programming

Computational thinking

Creativity

Computer networks

Communication and collaboration

Productivity

As in KS1, children at KS2 also have many opportunities throughout the week to apply their skills in other subject areas, as well as using devices such as ipads and laptops .as a learning tool in themselves, eg to research or record learning.
